Further to our rundown of star-mers, the Observer lists a few “celebrity” purveyors: Pat La Frieda says that restaurateurs sometimes comp him one of everything on the menu; Bev Eggleston is said to be the “Che Guevara of pig farming”; and perhaps most entertainingly, “Truffle Tsar” John Magazino comes off like the weed dealer he pretty much is (he’s put 94,000 miles on his Audi Quattro over the past two years, and, with the Observer riding shotgun, sells a bag of truffles to an unnamed Upper East Side billionaire for $2,250). One thing to know: Magazino says the Waverly Inn’s $55 macaroni and cheese is “probably the lowest price for a dish with fresh truffles in Manhattan.”
