Sweet, Sweet Liquor Finally Flows at JoeDoe

10/2/08 at 9:20 AM

A month ago, JoeDoe was lagging behind Prune in the brunch wars (and still was when we checked in again about a week ago), but that may change: Chef Joe Dobias's wife and partner, JillDoe, tells us their home away from home-sweet-home has been blessed with a liquor license. This is good timing, since the Rusty Knot has inexplicably kicked one of its actually-good items off the menu (the bacon and chicken liver sammy) — if you want another good one, you could do much worse than the challah-bread version at the ’Doe. Some nice touches on the cocktail list: a martini with pickled vegetables, a cerveza preparada (are Latin beer cocktails like the excellent ones at Mercadito Cantina becoming a trend?), and (heh) a “1st Street Manhattan” — we can only assume the preserved lemon is a nod to the sour attitude certain neighbors displayed at the CB meeting. Have a look.
