The General Greene launched weekday European-style breakfast this morning with a house-made banana bread, oat scones, and sticky buns, plus pressed sandwiches for around $4 (eggs and Gruyere) to $5 (eggs, bacon, and Cheddar). And? The restaurant now comes equipped with a Marzocco espresso machine and Counter Culture Coffee. Pastry chef and co-owner Nicholas Morgenstern has been serving the cult-brand coffee and tapping the beans to infuse chocolate chips for house-churned ice cream since Greene's opening, but he just returned from a La Marzocco boot camp — held at a training facility in D.C. — and is ready to operate and maintain his shiny new machine. The breakfast menu now runs from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., and brew and bites are available to go, but there’s also free Wi-Fi for the freelancer-heavy hood. Just don’t expect table service; Morgenstern says he wants to keep it casual.
