Momofuku Bakery and Milk Bar, Opening Tomorrow: ‘Creamy, Salty, and Buttery Deliciousness’

11/14/08 at 11:30 AM

Before its opening tomorrow, Ed Levine hits friends-and-family at Momofuku Bakery and Milk Bar and photographs the much-ballyhooed “volcano,” which turns out to be “the most delicious knish ever, filled with potato gratin, Gruyère cheese, and Benton's bacon.” He’s similarly enthused about pretty much everything else there, starting with the house-made English muffin (“Chang’s idealized version of an Egg McMuffin”), the bacon focaccia (“seriously delicious”), and the salty pistachio soft-serve (“tastes like the smoothest and creamiest freshly roasted and salted pistachio gelato imagin[able], only it's soft serve”). Final verdict: “You could have been taken down by the hype, but no, you had to go and deliver a mess of creamy, salty, and buttery deliciousness in just about every bite at Milk Bar.”
