Troubling news from the Food Bank for New York City, which recently conducted a study finding that a quarter of New Yorkers wouldn’t be able to foot a grocery bill if they were canned, and half don’t have enough savings to go three months without a job: “This year the 25-year-old organization is feeling the pinch. Food contributions from individuals are roughly 25 percent lower than expected, and direct mailing donations are off by 14 percent.
