No Kosher-Meat Shortage in Borough Park
12/3/08 at 11:49 AM
A story in this week’s Voice about the legal troubles plaguing Agriprocessors, one of the nation’s biggest kosher-meat operations, has an unexpected tip at the end. The Feds raided Agriprocessors' Iowa plant in May and rounded up nearly 400 undocumented workers. The plant, which distributed about 60 percent of the country’s kosher meat, is producing significantly less. The price of kosher meat is rising throughout the country and supply has diminished. Agriprocessors is owned by the Rubashkin family, who still run their original butcher shop in Borough Park — according to the Voice, there’s still plenty of meat for sale there.
