At Zenkichi, a Tasting Menu That Isn’t Ridiculously Overpriced

So Del Posto could afford to drop the price of its tasting menu by $50!? If that news has you cynical about markups, allow us to recommend the midwinter omakase menu at Zenkichi, our favorite place for cod sperm and “adventurous eating” in general. Here’s a secret: A preview of the menu was recently offered to friends and family “at cost,” and that cost was $30. Meanwhile, the à la carte price is $48. Not a bad markup for Kumomoto oysters and three-day pork belly in a Kyoto-esque curtained-off booth. You can see the rest of the menu here, along with a four-course $35 Restaurant Week menu also on offer.
