Even Better Than Squirrel Chips: Tarantula Kebabs

Tomorrow’s Gastronauts dinner is a bit of a yawn (miracle fruit? Been there, done that), but we’ve stumbled upon something that might satisfy your taste for the blechtacular. The National Geographic show Taboo went into the kitchen of the Waldorf=Astoria during prep for the annual Explorers Club dinner. Watch Gene Rurka, the club’s Exotic Food Chairman, use brandy to stun his $175-a-piece tarantulas and then flambé them to burn off their hairs — after seeing them deep-fried, you might just have some sympathy for these “protein lollypops.”
