A Look Back at the Block Party, and at Jim Mamary’s New ’Cue Spot

The Big Apple Barbecue Block Party went down this past weekend, per our tweets about the 150-person-deep lines. In case the photo galleries at Gothamist, Metromix, Off the Broiler, and A Gourmand’s Life leave you hungry for pulled pork, here’s some details about Since 1963, the Texas-style joint that opened in the former Gravy space last week. Its date of origin is the most dubious we’ve seen since Peter’s Since 1969, and it isn’t the only peculiar thing here: The hickory-smoked meats actually come from Jim Mamary’s other BBQ spot, Whiskey Sunday, and until there’s a full liquor license, you’ll have to carry booze over from next-door sister bars Trout and Pacifico. The interior is similarly slipshod, consisting of about a dozen picnic tables, some of them made out of old restaurant signs riveted to plywood. Delivery (from 5 p.m. till 10 p.m. daily) starts today. Here’s the menu.
