Did You Know the New Season of Chopped Premieres Tonight?

While Eat Me Daily shows its fangs answering the question “Who the Hell is Kelly Choi?” (come on, Grub Street readers have long known and loved Kelly Choi — among other things, she’s an advocate of Crystal Lite and Fage yogurt with strawberry jam!), it’s easy to miss the fact that another cooking show with a polarizing host, Chopped, is launching its second season tonight. Strangely, there isn’t anything about it on the Food Network’s website, but rest assured that at 10 p.m., young hopefuls Fritz Knipschildt (a goateed chocolatier), David Rotter (of Campo), Jason Zukas (of Bocca Fina in Queens), and Cheryl Perry (a culinary-school instructor) will be aiming to impress judges Alex Guarnaschelli, Chris Santos, and Marc Murphy with an “unusually salty vegetable,” Thai chiles, and Mexican desserts. Also back at the judges’ table this season: Aarón Sánchez, Scott Conant, Amanda Freitag, and Geoffrey Zakarian. It’s not Colicchio watching Top Chef at Craftsteak, but Chef Rotter will be watching the show tonight at Campo starting at 10 p.m.; beers will be $4, well drinks $5, and $8 bar-menu items include grilled pizzas, fried calamari, meatball sliders, and more.
