Spurned Ex Calls Sam Talbot a Two-timing ‘Dog’

"He's a good-looking guy."Photo: Patrick McMullan

This ain’t gonna sit well with Sam Talbot’s new fiancée, photos of whom have emerged on Amuse Biatch: The Post gets one of Talbot’s exes to call him a “dog”: “He told me I was his girlfriend, and then my friend went to the opening of Surf Lodge and was introduced to another woman he called his girlfriend.” A Surf Lodge rep says, “I don’t know about his personal life, but he's a good-looking guy. I’m sure a lot of girls like him. We’re in the restaurant business, not the jealous-girls business.” Hilariously, the item misspells fiancée Paola Guerrero's name as "Guerro," and the accompanying photo isn’t of Sam Talbot, but, rather, of Ilan Hall giving a thumbs-up, presumably saying, “You go, bro.”

Sorry, Ladies: Sam Talbot Proposes to Model Girlfriend

Sam Talbot

Lodge.Photo: Patrick McMullan

Former Top Chef contestant Sam Talbot proposed to his girlfriend, Paola Guerro, at Surf Lodge, where he’s in the kitchen these days. Considering the news was broken by People magazine (along with an exclusive photo shoot in Montauk!), this might just be a publicity ploy for the wildly hyped Hamptons restaurant and hotel, but Talbot’s affection for his Colombian-model fiancée seems genuine enough: “I'm so in love, it's unreal,” he “gushes” to People. Congrats, Sam.

Three Stars for Oceana; Richman Releases His New York Burger List

Everyone seems to have forgotten about Oceana, Frank Bruni tells us, but it's still three-star good, thanks to the polyglot imagination of its new chef, Ben Pollinger: “Mr. Pollinger matches seafood with its adornments carefully and cunningly, taking into account not only the fish’s boldness and other intrinsic attributes but also the ethnic logic of it all.” [NYT]

Alan Richman, who eats a lot of hamburgers, uses his GQ column to announce his five favorite burgers in New York. To wit: the Shake Shack (“Not a great burger, but a very good one ”), Big Nick's (“surprisingly good ”), Blue Smoke (“A great burger … I recommend it rare and without toppings, about as high a compliment as I can pay”), the Burger Joint in the Parker Meridien (“A tour de force.”), and Peter Luger (“wonderful” meat on “the best burger bun in America”). [GQ]

Scarpetta has made some fans, but Paul Adams isn't one of them. It's not because of the room or the neighborhood either: He just found the food overly rich, monotonous, and disappointing. [NYS]

Sam Talbot Is a Hamptons Guy Now

Sam Talbot

Lodge.Photo: Patrick McMullan

Top Chef’s Sam Talbot is now the Surf Lodge’s Sam Talbot, after his restaurant fed a Don Julio summer kickoff party at the Montauk hotel this weekend. In the kitchen he was banging out appetizers like roasted figs and pulled pork piled on cucumber slices and pretzel toast, but Talbot considers the crab seviche and the scallops to be the menu's hits. “I was never a Hamptons guy until now,” said the North Carolina transplant, who lives at the hotel and plans to start surfing. “I love it. I see the water and cook all day.” But it’s hard to shake that Top Chef shadow — or is it? “I’ve had a woman come up to me and say, ‘Oh my God, I’m so sorry about last week,’” he said, recalling a recent night at Pastis. “And I said, ‘I don’t know you.’ And the woman said, ‘I know, we probably shouldn’t have made out last week.’ And I was like, ‘Ma’am, I don’t know who you are.’ And then she said, ‘No, no. Now you’re playing hard to get.’ And then all of a sudden she realized, ‘I don’t know who you are.’” Grub Street readers won’t be fooled so easily. —Maridel Reyes

Top Chef hunk Sam Talbot has a job at last. Eater reports that the season-two runner-up, who has been floating around for a couple of years, has signed on to run Surf Lodge in Montauk, starting this summer. It’s not official yet, but apparently things are pretty far along, at least based on Talbot “boasting about the deal this weekend.” Hey, if he's boasting, it must be true, right? Um …

Our first night at the South Beach Wine and Food Festival made it pretty clear why this event is such a success. For one thing, it’s warm down here. And the two parties we attended were as carefree as hayrides. The full moon shone down on the Versace mansion, and we gained some useful knowledge. Such as…

Sam Talbot

Eater today announced a “Win a Date With Sam Talbot,” contest, posting some smokin’ photos of Hot Chef Sam Talbot taken for a charity event, the Glad Steamiest Chef Contest. (Grub Street’s pal Aaron Sanchez is also one of the steamy nominees.) The Eater-sponsored date is not sanctioned by Talbot, but editor Ben Leventhal thinks he can convince Talbot to participate with “a hot photo and the right cover letter.” But is the whole exercise just an excuse for Leventhal to proclaim his man-crush on Talbot from the rooftops of the Internet?

Lower Eastpacking District Tells Bar, ‘No Bull’

The first of a dying breed?

When we visited Johnny Utah’s a few days ago, it was a mere construction site with a $25,000 mechanical bull at the center. Granted, in these first interior shots, we still see nothing but the bull, but that’s just because we’re obsessed. And as obsessives, we were a bit concerned when a source told us that Rob Shamlian of Fat Baby had abandoned his plans to install the city’s second bull at 133 Essex Street, the site of the honky-tonk bar and restaurant, at one point called Evan Ford, that Sam Talbot walked away from along with his other project with Shamlian, Spitzer’s.

‘Top Chef’ Heartthrob to Cook on the Bowery?

Dressed for success.Photo: Patrick McMullen

On the agenda for tonight’s Community Board 2 meeting is a liquor-license application that a one “Sam Talbot or Corp. to be formed” has filed for 312–314 Bowery, a recently renovated mixed-use building between Houston and Bleecker Streets, walking distance from the restaurant Daniel Boulud hopes to open at Avalon Chrystie Place II. It seems, in other words, that Top Chef also-ran Talbot has found a new project after moving on from Spitzer’s, his ill-fated partnership with Fat Baby owner Rob Shamlian (you’ll recall "Page Six" rumors that big-name restaurateurs lured him into a mystery project). Trouble is, a Bravo publicist tells us Talbot doesn’t know anything about the Bowery application, and the other Sam Talbot, the beloved pushcart vendor, says he doesn’t know anything about it either. Will the real Sam Talbot stand up at tonight’s meeting?

Sam Talbot (Formerly) of ‘Top Chef’ Splurges at Nobu

"I usually cook for myself once a week, barely."Photo: Melissa Hom

Around the time he helmed the kitchen at Williamsburgh Café, before becoming an executive chef at Punch and then a contestant on Top Chef, Forbes named Sam Talbot one of the city’s up-and-coming chefs and Zink declared him one of its sexiest: “He is like a girl when it comes to shopping and grooming himself,” his Bravo bio reads. Unfortunately this didn’t cut it with the judges, and Sam was kicked to the curb on this week’s penultimate episode. Admirers will be happy to hear, however, that he’s still zipping around on his Vespa and consulting with the owners of Fat Baby on their two new Lower East Side restaurants. We asked him what he ate this week and learned that he likes his food cheap but solid — aside from his monthly splurge at Nobu.

Red Cat Owner Betting on Ilan to Win ‘Top Chef’

Immediately following the penultimate episode of Top Chef, we instant-messaged with Jimmy Bradley, the chef and restaurateur behind the Red Cat, the Mermaid Inn, and the Harrison, and the co-author of The Red Cat Cookbook. Last year's winner, Harold Dieterle, was a sous-chef at the Harrison, so we thought Jimmy might have an interesting angle on the battle between Ilan, Sam, Elia, and the much-maligned Marcel.

The Top Chef fans have spoken – or, rather, they’ve been bitching on the Internet. As America waits to find out whether Sam, Ilan, Elia, or Marcel gets the boot in tonight’s penultimate episode, it’s clear that the crowd’s heart is with Marcel, the Joël Robuchon cook the rest of the cast has been bullying all season. “I’m full of impotent rage at the idea that Ilan, Sam or Elia will win either of the competitions (fan favorite or Top Chef),” writes baconeggs on Television Without Pity.
