Overheard: Bistro Benoit

Alain Ducasse’s Benoit just opened, and we were on the spot last week to see what some of the first customers thought of their lunch. Was it truly classique? Did it live up to the legacy of Le Côte Basque, the French landmark that formerly occupied its space? Alexandra Vallis finds out in this video.

New Yorkers Know the Calorie Count, But Do They Care?

While restaurant trade groups fight a city law requiring chains to post calorie values on menus, Chipotle, Starbucks, and Subway have already complied. But even when the number is right before your eyes, do calorie counts change the way New Yorkers consume? What Happens When You Try ‘Top Chef’ at Home

Make PDT’s Bacon-Infused Old-fashioned at Home

In the magazine this week, maple syrup was a key ingredient in the "In Season" recipe. Don Lee of PDT may use maple syrup to make his old-fashioned, but we couldn't get past the bacon-infused bourbon that is the base of the drink. Bacon? Bourbon? We're in. And since we took our camera to PDT yesterday to watch Lee prepare the drink himself, we can all practice at home. Frequently.

In Season Video: Trois Pommes Patisserie's Hamantaschen

The rhubarb-hamantaschen recipe in this week’s "In Season" recipe look so good in this video demonstration that we resent all the bad prune cookies in our past. So appealing are Emily Isaac’s version from Troie Pommes Patisserie in Park Slope that we might just start celebrating Purim again.
