Riverdale: The Other South Bronx

  • 1/12/07 at 3:01 PM

Everyone's "discovering" the South Bronx these days as if the borough's never boasted gotta-have-it real estate before — but it's not entirely true that it hasn't. For years, buyers looking for more space, great schools (both public and private) and better access to Westchester County and New Jersey have chosen Riverdale, the reasonably priced neighborhood hugging the Hudson River. Co-ops make up a huge chunk of the housing stock, many with one- and two-bedrooms. Ritzy Fieldston boasts mansions that would make any mogul migrate from Manhattan for good. Most people get around these parts by car, but the trains are passably close. And hey, it's affordable — or at least within dreaming distance. A list of notable open houses is below. —S.
