Party Town

3/ 1/07

6:03 PM

It's ‘Club MTV’ All Over Again

Reebok "Freestyle" 25th anniversary celebration. Culture Club, 179 Varick St., nr. King St., 8 p.m. The Freestyle is a women's shoe, and the press release notes that expected guests such as Cybill Shepherd, Salt-N-Pepa (!), and Downtown Julie Brown (!!) "helped make the Freestyle what it is today." Whatever. No word on whether there will also be a party for the underpaid Asian factory employees that literally "make the Freestyle what it is today."

Howard Katz opening. Laura Pels Theatre, 111 W. 46th St., nr. Sixth Ave., 6:15 p.m. Alfred Molina stars in the revival of Patrick Marber's play; expected guests include Kate Winslet, Sam Mendes, and Gabriel Byrne. We once saw Gabriel Byrne blithely riding a bike around Cobble Hill on a sunny summer afternoon and have since had a hard time buying the red-herring scenes in The Usual Suspects that insinuate he's Keyser Söze. Or maybe … all that bicycling was just part of his sinister disguise!
