  • 6/15/07 at 09:40 AM
Kate White
Name: Kate White
Age: Much older than the average Cosmo reader.
Job: Editor-in-chief of Cosmopolitan and author of the new mystery Lethally Blond.
Neighborhood: Carnegie Hill

Who's your favorite New Yorker, living or dead, real or fictional?
It's kind of a tie between Holden Caulfield and Kojak.

What's the best meal you've eaten in New York?
The chicken Milanese at Mezzaluna. I'm addicted.

In one sentence, what do you actually do all day in your job?
It's basically a white-water-rafting experience that involves trying to balance creating Cosmo, the magazine, overseeing the brand extensions like Cosmo radio and Cosmo books, and managing staff — all without falling in the river.

Where do you get your coffee?
The Cosmo kitchenette.

What's the last thing you saw on Broadway?
Deuce.

Do you give money to panhandlers?
Yes. Though one of my favorite memories is being 24 and having a panhandler who'd asked everyone in the subway station "Can you spare some money for a cup of coffee?" say to me instead, "Would you care to join me for a cup of coffee?"

What's your drink?
A great Bordeaux.

How often do you prepare your own meals?
Every weekend, both lunch and dinner. I love to cook.

What's your favorite medication?
Cold-Eeze (it's basically zinc). Years ago I started taking them at the first sign of a cold and I almost never get colds now.

What's hanging above your sofa?
A George Condo painting.

How much is too much to spend on a haircut?
I only pay $125. I wouldn't want to pay more.

When's bedtime?
Between 12:30 and l a.m.

Brunch: Pro or con?
Con. Brunch should be abolished.

What's your thread count?
600.

What do you hate most about living in New York?
The rats running around the streets these days. My son saw a raccoon on Park recently with one in its mouth.

What's your brand of jeans?
Cambio.

When's the last time you drove a car?
Last weekend.

Who should be the next President?
Hillary Clinton.

Times, Post, or Daily News?
All three.

Yankees or Mets?
No offense, but I don't follow sports.

What makes someone a New Yorker?
Their tempo — the speed at which they live their life.
