Morley Safer Not Loving Couric's ‘Bullshit Hype’

Oh, me so Morely.Photo: Patrick McMullan
We asked which director had given such sage tit advice, but Morley walked away. Sigh. But wait! He was back! It was time to ask a serious question: “Is it necessary for Katie Couric to be in Iraq?” New York asked the Vietnam War correspondent. “I think if you’re a young reporter, and to me she’s a young reporter, it’s certainly important to be where a major story is happening,” he said. “I don’t think there’s anything wrong with Katie Couric going to Iraq and doing a perfectly good job. I think there’s something terribly wrong with the bullshit hype that’s surrounding it,” he said. “Bullshit hype!” he said again. And then he was gone, disappearing into the night like a mysterious sage, or maybe an angry old sailor. —Jada Yuan
