The news that Al Reynolds and Star Jones are getting a divorce is somehow so unsurprising that it's surprising. You know what we mean? Like, their marriage was so outrageous at the beginning (and awkwardly predictable: a handsome, reportedly gay man and an extremely overweight, widely loathed B-list celebrity) that we kind of thought it was going to work. If only to spite critics, a strategy widely known to be behind many successful marriages. But not so! Us Weekly reports that Star has filed for divorce. She explained, in a statement:

"Several years ago I made an error in judgment by inviting the media into the most intimate area of my life," she tells ET. "A month ago I filed for divorce. The dissolution of a marriage is a difficult time in anyone’s life that requires privacy with one’s thoughts. I have committed myself to handling this situation with dignity and grace and look forward to emerging from this period as a stronger and wiser woman.”

To tell you the truth, we've kind of come to like Star in her skinny, post-View incarnation. She's got a wry sense of humor, and those glasses make her look so smart! We think this is a good thing. What a waste it would be if she couldn't have another wedding!
