George Clooney is single again, and, according to "Page Six," "relieved." Banking heir Matthew Mellon is single again, after fiancée Noelle Reno left him and the cashmere clothing line they co-own. George Soros says he's not interested in buying Italian soccer team AS Roma with famed defense attorney Joe Tacopina. (Tacopina is still interested in making the purchase, perhaps because he has been linked to some shady dealings with ex–NYPD commissioner Bernard Kerik and wants to get out of the country.) Mischa Barton is having a lot of difficulty showing up for scheduled interviews. Prudential Douglas Elliman chairman Howard Lorber just bought the eatery Savanna's in Southampton. Ultimate Fighting Championship president Dana White called fighter Tito Ortiz a "dumb guy...the worst kind of idiot," after Ortiz lost a bout with Lyoto Machida. Hunter S. Thompson's widow, Anita Thompson, is writing a book about the gonzo journalist's final years. (Christopher Hitchens is doing the intro.) Rehabbed actress Kirsten Dunst went shopping at the Steve Madden store on Ludlow, but was also maybe "wobbly" at Bar on A this weekend. Leonardo DiCaprio was supposed to be partying at Dune in the Hamptons, but was actually with girlfriend Bar Refaeli. Cindy Adams chatted with Palestinian spokeswoman Hanan Ashrawi about airport security and the presidential election while in the Vienna airport. Liz Smith fondly remembers Sidney Pollack as "a wonderful human being whose like won't be seen again probably, not in the kick-and-scratch of Hollywood."
