After a month of rumors, it's official. The New York Sun will stop its presses for the last time tomorrow. A paper spokesman confirmed to FishbowlNY that tomorrow's edition will be the final one for the paper, which announced its capital crunch a few weeks ago. Despite much public support for the conservative paper and its scrappy staff since then, its backers weren't able to find a fresh source of cash to keep it afloat. (It's not the best market for new investment, apparently.) On the bright side, all those free copies that have been inexplicably turning up on your Upper East Side doorstep are now collector's items! On the less bright side, the city will lose an energetic young paper with lots of smart things to say about local politics, culture, and sports. Those who love to read wonderful writing about New York City, regardless of political orientation, will be sure to miss it.
