Sheldon Silver Beats Primary Opponents, Other Democratic Incumbents Not So Lucky

  • 9/10/08 at 09:40 AM

Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver handily won his only reelection fight in over twenty years yesterday when he toppled upstarts Paul Newell and Luke Henry with 68 percent of the votes in his district. But 28-year-old Daniel Squadron took out former Senate minority leader Martin Connor in the East Village, and Bronx incumbent Efrain Gonzalez lost to Pedro Espada Jr. In Brooklyn, Edolphus Towns easily defeated his challenger, Kevin Powell, the former Real World cast member.
