Last week, he drunkenly grabbed a pilot by the crotch during an altercation on an Air France flight from Paris to JFK, then spent the rest of the flight handcuffed, shackled, and tied to his seat, blabbering incoherently. Today, Hermès heir Mathias Guerrand-Hermès asked a federal judge in Brooklyn if he could use his passport while awaiting trial. Though surrendering one's passport is a standard bail term for foreign nationals, rarely does it so precisely fit the (alleged!) crime.

Magistrate Judge Roanne L. Mann nonetheless agreed to allow Guerrand-Hermès to travel to Paris and Geneva on business, though she required him to post an additional $1 million in cash (ball insurance?) and to get prior approval before each trip. Three attorneys from Bracewell & Giuliani appeared on Guerrand-Hermès’s behalf, notwithstanding that the prosecution had already consented to the deal.

Flanked by his attorneys on the way out of court, Guerrand-Hermès declined to answer questions, including whether he intended to try out a new airline.
