Alain Robert, the first of three men to climb up the new, rod-clad New York Times building this summer has been sentenced to a $250 fine and three days' service with Gay Men's Health Crisis. Which is funny because a) Robert scaled the building to bring attention to global warming, but the D.A. asked that he not be allowed to do his community service with an environmental group. (You'd think she'd want him to channel his ecopassions constructively!) And b) Because GMHC is often referred to as Gay Men's Hair Crisis, and Robert, a Frenchman who looks like one of those cartoons of scraggly-maned French people from our high-school French textbooks, appears to be having a bit of one himself.[NYT]
