One of our fondest elementary-school memories is of the school library. Remember how cozy it was in there, with those pro-reading posters on the wall and those golden Caldecott and Newbery Award stamps on certain books that let you know exactly what the K-8 chattering classes were reading? So how awful is it that, in the poorest sections of the Bronx, 17,000 kids in at least 42 schools have no school library because there's either no room for one or there's no librarian. Meaning there's no Amelia Bedelia. This is just wrong. [NYDN]
