New census data confirms that parts of Brooklyn that feel seriously gentrified are exactly that. In that swath of brownstone-y hoods west of Prospect Park (including, of course, the Slope), median household income is up 23 percent (to $77,784) in eight years, while a fifth of black and Hispanic families have left. The area is now 62 percent white, a 13 percent increase from 2000, and the median income of white families is $92,000. In Williamsburg, there are 80 percent more college grads than in 2000, while in the Slope, Carroll Gardens, and Cobble Hill, 30 percent of residents have master's degrees or higher.
