The AKC, completely ignoring the plight of thousands and thousands of mixed breed pets languishing in shelters across the country, has decided it's important to pressure the Obamas into getting a purebred dog — which, for families not living in the White House, is extremely difficult to find with a rescue agency. The Club has thrown its weight behind the Portuguese water dog (as opposed to the Obamas' other selection, the Labradoodle). This annoys us. [Chicago Tribune]
