Michael Phelps told the Baltimore Sun that he wasn't ruling out the possibility of skipping the 2012 Olympics. This is what he said:

“This is a decision of mine that I’m not going to make today and I’m not going to make tomorrow. It’s going to require a lot of time and energy and a lot of thinking for myself — but also talking to [coach Bob Bowman] and talking to my family and just deciding what I want to do ... But I’m not going to let anything stand in my way. If I decide to walk away, I’ll decide to walk away on my own terms. If it’s now, if it’s four years, who knows?"

WHAT. We didn't even know this was an option! Can't we just force him to compete? Can't Obama make a law or something? We can't just have our most legendary Olympic athlete drop out at a young age! We have to keep washing him until he comes out petite, adorable, and blonde like Dara Torres. Our nation's virility resides in the miraculous clefts of his eight-pack; we can't just let it soften now. Barack, do something!
