When CNN anchor John Roberts went up to Toronto to be inducted into the Canadian Broadcast Hall of Fame, he didn't go alone. He brought a lovely date, who remained on the sidelines, quietly applauding him and, later in the evening, intimately sharing drinks in plastic cups with him. Most people didn't notice, but then, most people aren't National Post gossip guy Shinan Govani. Govani and his spies not only realized that Roberts's stealth companion was fellow CNN anchor Kyra Phillips, but they also managed to snap the pair as they chatted and "cuddled." Now, there's nothing terribly scandalous about this — Roberts has been single a while and Phillips reportedly split with her husband last year. (It seems so long ago that America overheard her boasting about said "passionate, compassionate" ex while on a bathroom break in the CNN studios, when her live mike broadcast a private conversation during a George Bush speech.) But still, Govani can't help but wonder why the two refused to be photographed together, and Phillips even turned her head away from cameras when they were caught side by side. CNN reps did not respond to e-mails, but come on guys. We can deal with it when CNN anchor John King can barely keep his composure interviewing his new reporter-bride, Dana Bash; surely we can handle this.
