Philadelphia Daily News to Become Part of Inquirer?

The final consolidation of Philly's two dailies seeming imminent, and cuts and/or buyout offers at Rodale and the Boston Herald marked today's worst news, when other media companies are trying nearly anything not to fire staff.

— According to Twitter, that most reliable source, the Philadelphia Daily News is scheduled to become either an "edition," supplement, or otherwise co-branded entity with the Inquirer. [Jason Nark via Philebrity]

• Upscale food magazines like Condé Nast titles Gourmet and Bon Appétit are fighting the economy by writing about cheap — collective shudder — home eating. Tips include how to reuse leftovers and throw a snazzy, low-budget pizza party. Something tells us this was written by a ramen-eating college intern. [NYT]

• Scraping content (posting large pieces of the original work on a separate blog) may come with a price as newspapers are getting hot and bothered that other sites are making money off of their reporting. HuffPo is a major proponent of scraping and Arianna Huffington sees linking to external content as, of course, online promotion: "Everybody wants to be linked to," she said in that accent of hers. • Hachette Filipacchi are restructuring their women's titles under three "chief brand officers" to develop new revenue streams, set brand direction across platforms, and integrate print and digital advertising sales.
