McClatchy Takes Another Hit
Jay Leno's hospitalization and the subsequent cancellation of today's Tonight Show isn't the only bad news in media today.
• To cut costs, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security told its employees to cancel subscriptions to some newspapers and magazines, including the New York Times, the Washington Post, and Time. • The McClatchy Company, which publishes the Miami Herald, among other titles, reported a $37 million, or 45 cents per share, loss in the first quarter. [Yahoo]

• The New York Times Company is sticking to its May 1 deadline for that $20 million in concessions it's looking to collect from unions at the Boston Globe. Without the concessions, the Globe may be shuttered. [Boston Globe]
