Mayor Bloomberg won the backing of the Bronx Republican Party this weekend, giving him a place on the GOP ballot line this November, in addition to the Independence Party line he secured last week. Hizzoner had to toil somewhat for a Republican endorsement because he abandoned the party in 2007 while considering an independent presidential run, but party leaders ultimately decided to go with a semi-loyal front-runner rather than some staunchly devoted dark-horse candidate. Meanwhile, Bloomberg is also trying to get the endorsement of the Working Families Party, so that voters will have almost no choice but to vote for him come Election Day. [NY1, NYDN]
