Columbia University followed other Ivy League institutions by marking its lowest acceptance rate ever this year. Due to a 13 percent jump in applications, only 9.8 percent of students were admitted. This year, Harvard accepted 7 percent of applicants, Yale 7.5, Brown 11, and Dartmouth 12 percent. We assume, of course, that the Columbia numbers are due almost entirely to the Gossip Girl episodes filmed there. [Choice/NYT]
