You’ll Be Saying ‘Wow’ After Watching This Ad for the Catholic Church

  • 4/6/09 at 3:20 PM

It’s Holy Week for Catholics, and the Dioceses of Brooklyn and Rockville Center think today would be a perfect time for you to cleanse your soul and go to confession. But even though the days leading up to Easter are a solemn time, that doesn’t mean you can’t have a little fun! And thus we present the church’s ad campaign for SoulWow.com, which, as you can probably guess, is a parody of those ubiquitous ShamWow ads.

Naturally, there’s an embedded commercial there, in which a pitchman, “Father Vic,” does a spot-on Vince Offer impression, proclaiming "We have hundreds of priests waiting to take your confession and give you that almost-baptized feeling." (He even tosses in the requisite "You following me, camera guy?" for good measure.) It’s actually a pretty clever ad that presumably would connect with a younger audience (even if it's not nearly as effective as Priesto, the awesome magician-priest who came to our parish when we were in grade school). Though on the other hand, associating your clergymen with this is maybe not the wisest idea.
