Bloomberg Changes Deposition Location

  • 5/13/09 at 9:19 PM

In a move that might spare Mayor Bloomberg negative publicity during the rollout of his reelection campaign, lawyers for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission have agreed to move the location of Bloomberg's scheduled deposition tomorrow morning, sources close to the case say. Originally, the government lawyers, who are suing Bloomberg's financial information and media company over allegations of widespread pregnancy discrimination and retaliation against employees, had planned to depose the mayor at their offices at 33 Whitehall Street downtown. But after that location became public, the switch was made to the offices of Bloomberg's law firm, Willkie Farr & Gallagher, at 787 Seventh Avenue. "It was done for him as a courtesy," one source says. Richard Roth, an attorney whose client is named in the federal complaint, says the decision was made earlier in the week. "The mayor was offered a change of location for the deposition, and he accepted it," Roth says. Bloomberg has vowed to fight the case in court, and a spokesman declined to comment on the changed location.
