As you may have heard, outdoorsy magazines like Backpacker and Runner's World trounced their urban brethren at last night's ASME awards,* and in a particularly shocking upset, Field & Stream scored a General Excellence victory over perennial winner The New Yorker. But never fear, pasty intellectuals, the magazine will not allow this apparent bias to affect its editorial mission: "Lemme just say that if we’re going to make any headway in the outdoor area, we’re going to have to hire somebody, because my staff is not built for this," David Remnick told us after the awards. "I’m not a country guy. If I ever got a country house, it would be in the Village."
