Though government-watchdog groups and candidates lacking superhuman wealth have tried to shame Mayor Bloomberg into toning down his campaign spending in the name of fairness, it appears that voters themselves are responding to the "level playing field" argument with a collective "Meh." A new Marist poll (which also has Bloomberg still comfortably beating both quasi-candidate Anthony Weiner and real but largely unnoticed candidate Bill Thompson) shows that 73 percent of respondents are indifferent to Bloomberg's profligate spending. And about half of the rest seem kind of impressed. Bad news for anyone who was hoping to whine their way to Gracie Mansion. [Marist]
