Patti Blagojevich: Reality Television Is Necessary to Support My Family

  • 5/21/09 at 09:33 AM

Patti, the wife of disgraced former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich, didn't make it through her husband's scandal unscathed: In the words of Today show host Meredith Vieira, she was painted as a "foul-mouthed Lady Macbeth." So it is with great excitement that we look forward to her appearance on NBC's I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here. Not that she thinks she is a celebrity, mind you. "In this terrible economic time, I feel it's necessary to go to work and support my family," she said to Vieira this morning, explaining that when a judge wouldn't let her husband leave the country to star on the show, it fell to her to become the breadwinner. (If only all of the rest of the nation's 6,662,000 unemployed people would just realize that reality television is the only solution.) "I do want to say how proud I am of Patti. You know, she's willing to step up and do something like go into the jungle," Rod said. "Neither one of us are celebrities; I prefer to be compared to people like Theodore Roosevelt and Franklin Roosevelt and Harry Truman and others in history, not these comparisons." We're sure Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, Patti's two future co-stars, would be mighty offended by that.
