Last night the Expressions d’Origine, a group of producers of cru Beaujolais, met at Rouge Tomate with members of the Compagnons du Beaujolais. Vowing to combat the decline in popularity of the appellation (which has been muddied in recent years by comparison to festive but lower-brow Nouveau Beaujolais), they’re sending a special case of fourteen bottles to the White House. Intel Chris was at the dinner, and is still hung-over, but didn’t tell them about how, after Dijongate, Obama’s probably not going to be enjoying anything publicly French for a long while now. Perhaps next time a lovely wine book might be a nice choice?
