The New York Times analysis (via executive editor Bill Keller) of the situation in Iran, yesterday: "Mr. Ahmadinejad is the shrewd and ruthless front man for a clerical, military and political elite that is more unified and emboldened than at any time since the 1979 revolution." Their analysis today (via Neil MacFarquhar): The Ayatollah Khamenei "has opened a serious fissure in the face of Islamic rule and one that may prove impossible to patch over, particularly given the fierce dispute over the election that has erupted amid the elite veterans of the 1979 revolution." Keller is, after all, in charge over there, but who do you think will be doing the analysis from now on? [NYT, NYT]
