Paula Froelich Is Leaving ‘Page Six’

  • 7/13/09 at 4:53 PM

Best-selling Mercury in Retrograde author Paula Froelich, who has manned a desk and countless banquettes for the New York Post's legendary "Page Six" gossip column for a decade, is stepping away from her poison pen in two weeks. Word is the wisecracking blonde landed a deal with MTV to develop a show around her young-adult novel Grits. The novel isn't even finished yet, but will center around her childhood as "the only Jew and almost only virgin" in her graduating class at a convent in Kentucky. Froelich, whose years of connections from her work at the column helped her get a seat on nearly every morning show in town promoting Mercury — and thereby a coveted spot on the NYT bestseller list! — appears to be on a roll at the moment. We'd like to say something catty and jealous, but we won't because we're happy for her. And also because we don't want to turn up in her next book. The girl knows too much!

Update: Post editor Col Allan had this to say about the departure, through a rep: “Paula’s an excellent reporter. We enjoyed having her here and we wish her the best."
