While the rest of the country is showing signs of coming out of the Greatest Depression, the people at the Treasury's Public Debt department are doomed to remain depressed. We just got the following statement from the Treasury, announcing that they are canceling the Humor in the Office workshop that we reported they were seeking a leader for earlier today. Sayeth the spokeswoman:

A recent procurement request for information (RFI) seeking a training consultant to aid managers has been canceled. The RFI did not represent an appropriate use of taxpayer dollars, and we regret the early steps taken on this effort.

Wait, really? That's so ... sad to just give up like that.

Was this because people were making fun of them on the Internet? Don't they have a sense of humor over there? Oh. Right.

Update:

The AP fingers Senator Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D, as the man who broke Geithner's et als' spirit: "Of all the agencies, the Bureau of Public Debt should know that there is very little that is funny about today's economic conditions," he said in a statement today, even though, duh. That is the point. But whatever. Look at him, left. Dude wouldn't know Fun if it came up and yanked off his toupee.
