Longtime crime journalist and Vanity Fair diarist Dominick Dunne passed away today at his Manhattan home. According to his son, Griffin Dunne, the cause was bladder cancer. Since covering the murder trial of his daughter Dominique's killer in 1984, Dunne went on to write about the famous court cases of O. J. Simpson, the Menendez brothers, Michael Skakel, William Kennedy Smith, Phil Spector, Michael Jackson, and the impeachment of President Bill Clinton for the magazine. In the latter part of his life, Dunne was also a successful novelist and television personality. In addition to his son Griffin, he's survived by son Alex, granddaughter Hannah, and former sister-in-law Joan Didion, who was married to his brother John.
