A Pagan King Is Running for City Council

The Republican running for City Council in Queens's nineteenth district is Dan Halloran. According to his Facebook page, he likes the Yankees, karaoke, camping, Billy Joel, and Rescue Me. He's just a "regular guy," as Queens GOP chairman Phil Ragusa attests. One other thing, though: He's "the 'First Atheling,' or King, of Normandy, a branch of the Theod faith of pre-Christian Heathen religions assembled in the Greater New York area." His base of support likely includes the "group of dedicated fellow pagans" who "swear their allegiance to him through oaths of fidelity." Frankly, city councilman seems like kind of a downgrade, if you ask us. [Queens Tribune via Ben Smith/Politico]
