Brooklyn Church Offers to Help Synagogue Protested by Westboro Baptist Bigots

Heartwarming-story alert!: After Congregation Beth Elohim, one of the synagogues targeted by Fred Phelps's anti-Semitic hate protests, found on Thursday that their roof had collapsed, Rabbi Andy Bachman called up Pastor Daniel Meeter of Old First Dutch Reformed Church in Park Slope to ask for help. Meeter immediately offered his church's facilities for Beth Elohim's Yom Kippur services tomorrow and Monday, saying he and his congregation would be honored to help. What a lovely story of community and friendship trumping hate and fear. (Too bad it probably won't get back to Fred Phelps.) [Only the Blog Knows Brooklyn]
