Former Merrill Lynch CEO John Thain talked a little about his infamous $1.2 million office redecoration while speaking to students at University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton Business School yesterday: “We decorated it in the style that Merrill Lynch offices were, which was very, very nice,” he said. “That was a mistake, and I’m sorry that I did that. If I had that to do over again, I’d furnish it in Ikea.” This statement was greeted with uproarious laughter, because even after everything, the image of a Wall Street CEO picking up an Alan wrench and building discount furniture is just hilarious, don't you agree? Because actually nothing has changed at all.
