  • 10/1/09 at 09:26 AM

After yesterday's deadly quakes in Samoa and on the Indonesian island of Sumatra, a second one hit near the latter location just as airports and hospitals were reopening early this morning. So far, 549 are estimated dead in the region, with the toll expected to rise as rescue work continues. After the Samoan quake, the resulting tsunami is estimated to have claimed 154 lives so far.
