The Senate confirmed Regina Benjamin as the U.S. surgeon general tonight, three months after President Obama nominated her. She was confirmed on a voice vote after Harry Reid complained earlier today about Republicans holding up her nomination. (They were still getting over Sanjay Gupta.) An Alabama doctor, Benjamin was the first black woman to head a state medical society and last fall she received a MacArthur Foundation "genius grant." Welcome to the government. Now fix swine flu! And health care! And fat kids!
