Robert Miller was by design a perfect accomplice for Marc Dreier: He had an extremely nuanced understanding of securities law after working as a lawyer for the S.E.C. in the eighties, and ostensibly he does killer accents. Otherwise Dreier probably wouldn’t have paid him $100,000 to impersonate a Canadian pension plan representative on one call and an Icelandic hedge fund representative on another as the two worked together to unload bogus securities to hedge funds. Miller plead guilty today and will face up to twenty years.
