An unavoidable aspect of every giant oil spill is the inevitable photos of oil-drenched animals — looking sad, looking distressed, or looking dead. Well, here’s your very first one. At least this lucky Northern Gannet is getting a lot of special attention — bird-rescue crews used Dawn soap to scrub off the oil, and even gave it a dose of Pepto-Bismol, because it had an oil-induced tummy ache, we guess. Normally we resent birds for constantly trying to destroy our airplanes mid-flight, but when you think about all the oil we’ve spilled on them over the years, can you really blame them? [MSNBC]
