Congressional Candidate Revels in His Ignorance of America

Should people who aspire to serve in Congress possess a basic, elementary-school level understanding of the nation they wish to help govern? Sadly, this question is now a part of the Republican primary for a congressional seat in Idaho. At a debate Wednesday night, answering a question about Puerto Rican statehood, candidate Vaughn Ward repeatedly referred to the territory as a separate “country.” When his opponent in the debate, who was actually born in Puerto Rico, pointed out his error, Ward responded, “I really don’t care what it is.” This guy seems like a winner, eh?
