According to Charlie Gasparino, the May 6 market plunge was caused by “human error, an improperly placed order, according to the preliminary findings somewhere at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange which set off a wave of selling in the stock market … the SEC right now is putting together the final report … It may be released today. This is a very political thing, so there may be some degree of massaging in here.” In hindsight, of course it was.
